Our teams had an amazing time on the weekend, despite the severely cold weather! We had plenty of rosettes and some fabulous riding all round. As the event had been postponed from Christmas due to many of the competitors being snowed in – the dress theme was still Christmas Jumpers (which was fortunate really as these helped keep out the cold). Our novice team (60/65cm), quite aptly named 'The Christmas Jumpers' was made up of our own Pole Moor members Joanne Hallinan riding Bonny and Holly Killburn riding Beau. We were joined by Ackworth member Emma Martin riding her mothers youngster Louis and Colne Valley's Danni Shaw riding Bambi. All of the horses were young or green so it was a big test for them to compete in a spooky indoor arena over a winding course with plenty of fillers. Everyone jumped at least one clear round and the team ended up on a total of 8 faults resulting in them being placed 4th. Riding next was the intermediate team (70/75cm) – 'The Sleigh Belles'! This team was made up of Hannah Pedley riding Moment, Dy Duncalf riding Lara and two new Pole Moor members Nikki Richmond riding Boppys Dancer and Lucy Thompson riding Woodstock Friday Man. The team rode their socks off and all four team members had double clears resulting in them finishing on 0 faults. Lucy Thompson took up the reins in the jump off in a battle for first place, after only having been jumping for 6 months and having never taken part in a jump off before. The team took a very worthy second place and were thrilled. Last to go was the Open class (80/85cm). Two teams were entered which consisted of a mix of riders from different clubs. 'The Silent Knights' were made up of Pole Moor's Hannah Pedley riding Moment, Dy Duncalf riding Lara, Colne Valley's Jo Crowther riding Honey, and Ackworth's Emma Martin riding Quartz. 'The Holy Hooves' were made up of Pole Moor's Nikki Richmond riding Boppy's Dancer, Lucy Thompson riding Woodstock Friday Man, Jack Fowers riding Guiness and Ackworth's Sally Ramskill riding Sunny. Again both teams had some fabulous rounds in particularly Hannah Pedley, Jo Crowther and Nikki Richmond whom all had double clears. After both rounds the Silent Knights ended up on 4 faults in a battle for 1st place with 4 other teams! This time Hannah Pedley rode the jump off and managed another fast clear round. The level of competition was high and all teams managed to jump very fast clear rounds resulting in the Silent Knights placing 4th . The Holy Hooves finished on 8 faults and placed 5th . Well done to all the riders on a successful and fun outing! Good luck to Hannah Pedley, Nikki Richmond and Lucy Thompson who are representing the club at the British Riding Club team SJ qualifier alongside Louise Harper on 25th February. With a result like this weekend our riders have a really good chance of placing and maybe even qualifying for the championships!
